Our own AppRochesterian Professor Tom Kolankiewicz will be speaking on the latest app development tools.  Here’s his agenda:

Title:
Overview & Demo of Android App Developer Console App Testing and Staged Rollout Feature
Intro:
At the 2013 Google I/O conference, Google introduced  some new capabilities to the Android App Developer Console for app testing and staged rollouts.  If an android developer chooses to do so, they can now promote their app releases from Alpha –> Beta –> Production in a more controlled and managed way.   A developer can publish a “limited release” of their app in the google play store by effectively making their app visible only to individuals in a Beta Test Google Group or Google+ Community.
Using this new capability, an android developer can:
  • Gather expanded end user testing and feedback,
  • Better manage the Beta Testing process and be assured that all Beta Testers are running the most current Beta Build on their mobile devices,
  • Make your app launch a successful and painless deployment task  instead of crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.

This process also provides a means to mitigate the android device fragmentation problem by identifying problematic android device models (and even device manufacturers) and then excluding these devices from having visibility to your app in the Google Play Store.
In this presentation, Tom will discuss and demo his recent experience in using the app testing and staged rollouts capabilities.  Time permitting, Tom will then lead a discussion on identifying some best practices for app Beta Testing and Deployment that are both cross-platform and app store agnostic.
