October Monthly Meeting

Our OCTOBER meeting will be October 7th from 6pm to 8:30pm. We are BACK AT RIT! Please RSVP so we can order enough food.

Tom Kolankiewicz , app19.com, and Stephen Lambardo, Zetetic.net, will be presenting in-person and remotely on SQLCipher* and Mobile Device security. Steve will start off with an overview of mobile device security threats and the challenges facing developers today, and explain why security should be a critical focus for all new and existing applications.

We will then discuss what’s involved in building more secure applications, and introduce the SQLCipher library as a means of enhancing application-level security with database encryption to secure user data. In addition to discussing how SQLCipher works, the session will provide a high-level overview on how to use SQLCipher with various development tools.
Tom will conclude the presentation and share learnings from a recent android project in which he used both SQLCipher to encrypt a device-resident SQLite** database, and, ProGuard to obfuscate the android source code.
*SQLCipher is an open source extension to SQLite that provides transparent 256-bit AES encryption of database files.
**SQLite is the world’s most popular relational data store. It runs on many mobile devices including the: iOS, Android, Windows, and Blackberry platforms.
